Relapsing, The Second Episode

Here you are back at the meeting

Where to sit in round seating

This way everyone’s faces are in view

You had wanted to hide not stand out new

The meeting begins the chairman starts

The prayers of each come from their hearts

Announcing the theme for discussion today

Many stand up for what they have to say

As you look around you see

A cup in many hands that you believe

Alcoholics tighten their grip’s manipulation

Like that cup will serve total salvation

Holding out your hand - steady as steel

You can’t be here this isn’t real

I’m not one of these sorry a*s losers

I’m not a druggie or a boozer

So the meeting opens for each to tell

Their horror story living with hell

All their stories are complicated

But they’re not here adjudicated

Why would the court want me to listen

Watch them drown in sweat and glisten

All the tears come down to fall

Contagious catching one and all

Denying that you have addiction

Certainly not one of your afflictions

Starting to squirm in your chair

Not listening further or willing to share

Looking at the clock on the wall

Check you phone for any phone call

When you notice the dealers phone

Off to the restroom to be alone

Dealer tells you of his new stash

Replying you'll call back in a flash

You haven’t even left the meeting

Unconsciously drugs already seeking

Meeting not finished but you can’t stay

Phone the dealer, ”you're on the way”

Speeding down the road in locomotion

Brain thoughts scattered in commotion

Heart beating wild and rapidly hard

You just became the Joker wild card

No one will know where you are this time

Securing to a motel spend that dime

The problem is the other guests

You recognize as the drug-hole rest

Giving you an acknowledging smile

Knowing what you are dong all the while!

Wow, LadyAnn, you know how I feel about this subject and you know my feelings go a lot further than most - as do yours. This is powerful and I really like that you have decided to do a little series on it For me, one poem is not enough to discuss such a deep subject that really does affect a lot of us in this world nowadays.

I like how you've made it rhyme but at the same time, managed to keep such an important message, poweful and strong.

The poem told a honest and scary story. Addiction is hard to break and easy to fall back into. You create real thoughts and struggle in the poetry. Thank you dear friend for sharing the powerful words and poetry. Real life is hard.
