Relapsing, The First Episode

Working recovery for the first time

Denying addiction of any kind

Attend a meeting listening to hear

Change is easy, this seems clear

Speakers admit that they fell

Into an abyss of darkness and hell

Decision to clean was in part

The only thing easy at the start

Take the white chip for "clean" desire

Realize the rest are not for hire

Staying clean was an easy decision

Reality made you withdraw your position

So a week or two has swiftly passed by

Compulsive actions led the next high

Thinking to yourself…I can stop

Getting arrested by the neighborhood cop

Sleeping solid until the hearing

Facing the judge inwardly fearing

The judge may make you stay in jail

Standing thin, dark eyed, and very pail

Released with a minor complication

You have to register for state probation

The officer gives you an itemized list

Required activities that get you pissed

Court ordered meetings were assessed

Still think you not like the rest

Have to report twice a week

Submit clean urine is what they seek

Probation officer has many rights

Including showing up in the dead of night

Sneak a one-time high is the thought

After the drugs were already bought

First hit blow out hard the smoke

Cloudy, cough until almost choke

Get so high the phobia begins

Hallucinations of your officer’s grins

Early morning with the sun rise

Your phone turned off you realize

Check the number for missed calls

See the number from City Hall

Called in, now have to report

Oh no…dirty urine back to court

How can you face the lost promise told

No longer in control, no longer bold

Again you face the judge’s rule

Like standing in a corner at elementary school

Relapsing is simply not self-kind

Stay clean if you want to leave this all behind

BACK TO TAKING THAT WHITE CHIP… FOR THE DESIRE TO “GET” CLEAN… AGAIN!

I understand hard to stay clean. Easy to fall to the easy ways. A strong ending to the outstanding poetry.

I will review now.
Relapse can be extremely hard and it is quite unpredictable in some occasions. It is one hard thing to get over too, it leaves you feeling hopeless and helpless. It's hard to get back on track but if you're extremely strong and have a great support group you'll get there, with the help and confidence from friends and family - I know exactly what you're talking about here, LadyAnn. I have been learning about it in Psychology, in fact, I've practically been teaching the class!

Great job on this one.
