How They Treat Me

How They Treat Me

A Poem by LadyAnn68

Trying to find honest licensed work after a background-check fails you~my none ending story!

"

How They Treat Me

Done a lot of wrong

To many whom I’ve loved

But the most wrong I’ve done

Was to my belief in God above

Drowned in years with drugs

Lost faith, family, and friends

With new found determination

Tried to make complete amends

With a new set of priorities

Found passion for the written word

Went back to get educated

Became a bookworm nerd

Went to get licensed

But NO work breaking my neck

It all came down to the same thing

Passing a background check

Everywhere I went

The same cold shoulder

Worse than standing in the street

Or hit by an ice hard bolder

No matter how much

How hard I tried

They’d stand in front of me

One by one they all lied

What does an addict have to do

To eliminate the stressful

How to obtain a green light

Show you can be successful

What massive energy will it take

To finally earn respect

Find lawful employment

Be able to earn your own paycheck

How can I change

How they look at me

To give a measure of credit

Change the way they treat me

Some days I want to give up

To scream out so very loud

But God still stands behind me

With his trust, I’ve become proud

Don’t Ever Give UP Your Dreams~

such a powerful, positive message expressed in a melodic rhythm that tugged on the heartstrings with each beat.. we all make mistakes, but some can haunt you for quite a long time.. you can feel the frustration.. the desire.. the resilience in this... well done!.. keep that faith.. that hope alive.. :)

one small suggestion.. (my opinion, for what it is worth)

(To eliminate stressful).. would add "the" in there.. helps with flow.. I stumbled a little here.. (to eliminate (the) stressful..)... again.. just my opinion..

you're welcome.. I am glad I could help:)
People in 21st century are so quick to judge on what they know of us rather than asking about our story and trust me it hurts it will be hard but no matter what we can't give up

No one is perfect, we are all human and to many are quick to judge us, when its not there right to judge, and your right to never give up on your dreams, we all go through struggles in life, you will find your place, don't ever let anyone make you feel like you are beneath them for problems past, i'm sure if they looked in the mirror, they aren't perfect either, with that said, great piece poetry :)

thank you Alicia for your words of wisdom if only others would see it that way!
I truly find this honest and right from your heart, its not only you myriad are suffering for a second chance...No one want to do things, which are forbidden!
I guess its in DNA of human to do such things, like like Adam and Eve...
I like the way you kept God on top of everything, he gave lessons and he is the one who forgive; he heard your prayer and all will be fine!
This was strong writing, respect!
