Gentle SurvivorA Poem by Lauren Xena CampbellA poem written for my first sighting of a bobcat as I went horseback riding in the rock mountains on holiday.Melodies whisper in the wind as we climb, Watching the vapors for those warning chimes, Gracefully our accent becomes apparent, As horseflesh wonders though mountains labyrinth. Soothing the scents of dusty honeycomb, The fragrances of the ancient god’s home, As iron shoe on rock face twitter, Small mammals of forest path flitter. Out in the harsh wilderness I am free, In my savor of all the world I see, But unknowing ours are not the only eyes that watch, For claws skate bark on trees secret notch. Wistfully yellow eyes search the disturbing force, Ears twitching as it ponders the next course, Silently it leaps from the pines sheltering embrace, And I with the Red Lynx am face to face. For a time the predator stares in quiet movement, Searching my gaze for a situation improvement, A leathery tongue licks white furred jaw, And flees into the distance with one warning bawl. And I watch as it run delighted with sights flavor, And smile at my encounter with bobcats gentle behavior. © 2010 Lauren Xena Campbell |
