DragonfliesA Poem by Lauren Xena CampbellSilver slashed the night-sky wide, Terror rose bloomed the larvae rise, For all a maiden of wings held high. Crack the shield in mirror water, The Nymphs awake the morning dew, To fritter their jaws, hidden the mask of doom. Ages, the battle has won, When ruby-spot Damsel flees the run, The mighty beast to its kingdom is come. Eyes the moon round sensitise see, Mercilessly, the Hawker Brown ponders, As in silence she Common-Blue in garden wonders. In spring breeze fire the Dragon shall strike, This the green darner’s mosquito bit, With victory a darting Emperor takes to flight.
