Cancer

Cancer

A Poem by Lauren Xena Campbell

Cancer,

The plague of the earth,

Anger with no cure,

Crushing hope, smashing the soul,

Like a mirror of ice,

Seven years bad luck,

Wounded heart forever,

Tearing love away,

Causing pain.

Look back on endless years,

How many graves have the reapers filled?

     One,

           Two,

                  Three?

Too many that words can’t say,

Bite the bullet, feel the blade,

No, the black withering decay,

Extinguishing lives so dear:

        Friend,

       Grandpa,

       Uncle,

       Grandpa,

       Aunt,

      Grandpa,

Will the undertaker’s list never end?

Tears will fall,

Emptiness begin,

And what have we gained?

      Strength,

                   Bravery,

                                 Grief?

Cancer – The plague with no cure.

This is really sad...sad yet true to the core. I lost my grandmother who died of cancer as well. Agreed, cancer is certainly the plague of the earth.
Cancer, eats up the person from within, helps the inside rot with pain and kills the person eventually.
An early detection is indispensable and for that proper awareness is needed as well.

Great write,
Shinjini

So true your words, but however sad the topic your writing is great and makes one really feel the sadness and pain, the loneliness and the emptiness. The rhythm and rhyme is very good. Just keep up writing for I'm already looking forward to your next work.
