Blood Pouring On The Ground

Blood Pouring On The Ground

A Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne
"

The devastation of war

"

Blood spilled on earth and in the sea

Dying in air and on land

Shed for all…

Yet shed in vain

Soldiers dying right and left

Left like nothing but rags on the street

Men crying for their mothers

Their wives and children too

Fighting for unknown causes

Doing what they’re told to do

Sometimes without a choice

Sent to fields far from home

With mines beneath they’re feet

Soldiers in foxholes

Trying to protect themselves

Fighting to protect others too

Mortally wounded soldiers

Blood  covering the ground

Fightin to protect me and you

Wounded and bleeding

They continue on

Doing what they're told to do

The wounded and dead

In jungles and in the air

So many soldiers dying

While fighting, trying to defeat

Held captive, like a prisoner of war

By tortured memories

That eat at their souls

Bloody hands and bloody feet

Blood pouring on the ground

Dying in foreign places

Trying to find places to hide

In jungles wet with rain…

Mixed with blood from those so brave

Such a myth of glory

Paid with blood,  fear and tears

Doing what they’re told is right

Kill or be killed is the battle cry

They say "Stand up and fight"!

Booby traps, ambush attacks

Just how many people can they save?

I don’t want these bloody wars

We’ve lost enough of our own

And all those world wide

Graves on the ground

 With names of the dead

Markers, names carved in stone

"That's not enough"! , I cry

For all those who've died

For all their souls I weep

Now and In the past…

Just how much longer

Will these damn wars last?

Why should we make people go to war?

When will we learn love and peace

For all mankind in our country

And all over the world?

We need to way ways...

To make all this cease

When will we learn these lessons

Before it's too late to learn?

We need peace and love

In the USA and all over the world

Blood on the ground wherever we roam

We have to stop all this fighting

Between ourselves and those we love

Here and all over the world...

But it  truly starts, right here at home

Anne Such a truth that so young they find the life they lead to be so judged It is hard to grow up at 19 even harder to come home after some of it

I have total respect for our soldiers out there fighting for freedom but also feel bad that they are sent in to fight useless wars and end up dying for nothing other then the egos of world leaders. Nobody wins in war.

The painful devastation of war comes through so movingly in your imagery.. such pain.. such loss.. and for what we must say... May peace fill us and these precious families who have lost loved ones for the sake of peace.

On behalf of those who will never read this Anne ... I thank you.
I've written many poems about war but nothing truly pulls the horror of it totally into focus for a reader. Having said that, this is a bloody good attempt my friend. You've related the scenario well.

It's quite horrifying what the illusion of grandeur and glory, when it comes to war, is capable of. The men and women that fight for our country are very brave and face great threats for our safety, and that in itself is honorable, however, the bigger question is why is it happening at all? This piece addresses that effectively and acknowledges aspects of war and battle that people would rather forget even exists. A nice wake up call.

Great work!
