![]() Lonely Unmarked GravesA Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne
There are some whose names aren’t onThe Wall Who fought in wars current or in the past Those who committed crimes buried by the state An unknown person in life alone they passed
Those neglected spots trodden by so few No flowers are left on Memorial Day No one comes to mourn their loss Now in unmarked graves in death they lay
Where flowers never show their colorful face Who is this person that no one knows Child, man or woman anonymous in life and death Marked by a headstone as just ‘John Doe '
Perhaps a burdened life they had to bear A sad fate for a human without a face No one comes to tend graves without names Buried in a forgotten nameless space
I'll place a single rose where they lay The next time I see...
