A Coyboy's Lament

A Coyboy's Lament

A Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne

Cowboy Sitting on Barstool at Bar Drinking Beer Royalty Free Stock Vector Art Illustration

I’ve pulled the last one from the pack

Of my red and white box.

Smoked it right down to the stub

I can’t leave this bar where

I drank the last shot of Jack

The barkeep says “No more for you Bub”.

I know you’re out there with someone you met.

You’re out there somewhere painting the town

While my tears mix with my amber colored shot.

You’re dancing and prancing with some other clown

And I have no more damn cigarettes.

You think I still want you after you left me alone?

Well, guess what baby, I sure as hell do!

But darn baby, please bring me your lovin’

Some Jack and some more damn cigarettes

Before I fall off this barkeep’s, slippery stool.

You’re always here, underneath my skin

With  my constant, crazy cravin’ for you.

I’m just an ole' cowboy head over heels

Held captive with your kiss and your smile.

I’m falling’ I’m sliding right down to the floor

Barkeeps sweeping up the joint

Trying to close all the doors.

Ya’ better come get me, cuz I sure can’t drive home.

Don't bring me none of your blueberry lemonade

And please, before you come….

Will you stop and buy some more cigarettes?

I roamed Texas for almost six years. Hard on those lonely cowboys. I like the story in the poem. Good whiskey and cigarette can help for a time. I like the way you ended the poem. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
