The woodsA Chapter by Lacy Sutton
Not long after the moon came up in full view lighting up the night sky everything seemed to change. Dark and eerie was the best way to explain it. There was something off now in the air and it gnawed at Iyanna making her feel like there was something watching them far off in the distance in the woods past the waterhole. Something that seemed like it may be hungry or angry of their presence. Feeling dizzy Iyanna took a seat rubbing her temples trying to calm herself wishing away the scared feeling in the pit of her belly. Duke noticed and sat next to her asking her what the matter was. He told her it may just be the alcohol and not to worry and had offered to walk her home so she could rest. Her house wasn't far from there and she was a bit tired and new she had to get up the next morning for school. Only problem was the short cut to the back of her house was through a little path in the woods. She thought as long as she had Duke with her shed be ok; hopefully anyway he'd fight off muggers for sure if need be. The two said their good byes and off they went.
As Iyanna and Duke got closer and closer to the opening of the woods where her path to home started she grew more anxious. She didn't know why but she just couldn't shake the feeling that something dark lurked around them. Reaching into his gym bag Duke pulled out his key ring which had a mini flashlight hanging from it. Since they got deeper into the wood it had grown much darker and they could barely see the path in front of them. Clicking the flashlight on Iyanna swore that she saw something dart fast a little ways up from them and she yelped. Which scared Duke forcing him to drop the little flashlight and everything else in his hand. After he was able to settle his nerves he once again grabbed for his flashlight only this time it didn't turn on. "Crap, there goes our light. Just our luck! Lets try our phones, they'd give off some sort of light; any light is better then this spooky darkness that keeps playing tricks on us." Both bent down searching for the bags Duke had been carrying to get their phones out and on as quick as possible. Finding them they quickly turned them on to shine light. In that instance it was clear they were not alone in the woods. looking out in front of them Iyanna saw what looked like a figure but it was too dark to make out exactly who or what it was. All she could hear was its cackling and calling her name out screeching at her to come to him. She turned to look at Duke and suddenly he was gone, no where in sight. Scared she called out his name many times and no response. Only thing she saw in her viewing distance was still that creature calling out to her now howling and sounding mad as ever. Pulling back at her phone she faced the face of her phone towards its direction and it was no longer standing in the spot she last saw him. A split second and it seemed like it vanished; gone like it never existed in the first place. The cackling and name calling had stopped as well. Frazzled she leaned against a tree nearby rubbing her head trying to calm her self down and again called out for Duke; still nothing. "Where the hell is he, he was just hear holding my hand, and the next gone no where to be found. What if that thing took him? What if he is dead? What the f**k was that thing and why did it keep calling her name? What did he want with her? I'd heard of the spooky stories about teenagers being taken and never returning but I always thought that was just a story parents told the kids so they wouldn't wander in the woods at night. What if the boogyman was real all this time and he has Duke and now wants me? Lord please let this be my lucky day!" After Iyanna quit with the scary thoughts and wondering what the hell just happened she slowed her breathing and racing heart. She decided to try and call Duke's phone hoping he'd actually answer. Too her surprise she was relieved to hear his voice on the other end of the phone. He told her that she had a panic attack and had passed out so he went run and get help because his phone battery died so he couldn't call anyone. "Thank god your ok, I was so worried about you I thought that creature took you or worse killed you!" said Iy still trying to steady her breathe which seemed easier now hearing Dukes alive and well. "huh what creature Iy, there is nothing out there, you must have drempt that in you passed out state. There was just us. You may have drank a little more then you realize. You were scared of an owl screech, paniced them out cold you went. That's it." "Hm maybe you're right. I'm glad to hear you are ok. My house it a minute away ill phone you as soon as im in doors." Iyanna said back feeling her normal self. As Iyanna reached the opening of the woods she could see her backyard and the light that shown and the patio by the pool. Happy to have made it home she took off in a full on sprint dashing to her fence when suddenly out of no where she felt it! Between blurred vision from the impact and going in and out of concience she saw it that creature was real only it looked more human like that an animal but boy was it ugly. It was strong and angry and all I could do was fight with everything in me to get away from it but it never let up on me and I kept hearing it repeat that I was going with him back to her real home and hed make her wish shed never be born if she didn't quit while she was ahead. Finally losing all conscience she was out. "You're fine now, I got you." "That Assi wont be back anytime soon." She heard an all to familiar voice say. But with all that just happened she was confused had not one bit of strength to try and listen or anything. Later that night she woke up in her room laying in her bed normally in pjs and all as if nothing happened. Confused she replayed the events of the night in her head over and over. "and lastly who was that guy that saved me. He smelled of sweet musk. A smell I wanted to live in forever." "What the...!" "It was Kane he was the guy who saved me." "But how did he know where I was or where to find me?" "S**t! its 4 am hes probably sleeping right now. Ill call him first thing in the morning. Hed better get his explaining cap on!" The rest of the night dragged on so to help make use of her time she thought shed right down all the questions she needed answers too and she had to decided no to let him get away with out dotting every t crossing every i.
