Iyanna Green

Iyanna Green

A Chapter by Lacy Sutton

"Its only 7 am, really!"  Iyanna said blinking her tired eyes at her buzzing alarm clock.  "Can't a girl get some sleep for once; especially on a Sunday morning.  Day of rest my a*s!"  It was the last week of school and in 6 days, May 16, she'll also be turning 16 finally catching up with Melony, her bestfriend whom had been 16 since April.  Annoyed Iyanna flipped the buzzer and got out of bed putting her normal jeans and tank top on ready to start her day.  She could hear her parents downstairs arguing about something she thought must be pretty intense because she heard the door slam as her mother walked out the house.  "Who knows?!"  Her parents always argued. mostly about silly things like the door being left unlocked or a left open window at night. Seems worse lately since the day she first asked them for little sweet sixteen party with some friends over from her school.  This was a big deal to her. It's her sweet sixteen after all, so a little partying didn't seem to far out of the question.

Her parents were both lawyers. They started a business together that now brings in the big bills.  Both also looked like they stepped right out of high end magazines, her dad Garrehg could be the prime model for GQ and her mom Iysley could be strutting the cat walk next Tyra Banks.  Iy wished she looked more like them and less like tinkerbell minus the wings and blonde bun.  Iy had an olive skin color with burgendy hair, curls spiraling anyway they decided which most days ended up in a playful ponytail or bun.  Her eyes were emerald green with hints of honey sparkles.  She often wondered if she was adopted but if that were the case in time her parents will tell her, or maybe she just inherited her looks and personality from a family member further down the line.  She didn't know much about her grandparents except that they were wealthy but died of some sort of sickness that tormented them for years and had them locked up in some type of looney bin.

Stepping out her front door Iy could hear the horn coming from Mels car as she waved.  "That damn horn is so loud and annoying, I don't know why you let your brother talk you into installing it.  You could hear it miles away and it makes a cats scowl sound like heaven compared to the ever so famous "Dukes of Hazard" honk!"  "Relax Iy.  Get in we have only an hour left before the end of the school year bash at the waterhole and you need my closet desperately!"  Iyanna wasn't much on getting dressed up, putting on make-up, or looking like she seeked attention from some jock with no brains.  She rather look casual and comfortable, so when Mel decided today she was making Iy her life size barbie she was less than thrilled.  Mel was excited about the fact that they got to strut their stuff in bikinis around hot boys that she raced through the streets to get to her house.

Melony lived in a nice huge house/mansion/castle.   Swank as most called it.  Her parents, like Iy's were also lawyers, but most of the time were out of town, leaving Mel and her older brother Kane home fending for themselves.  Neither of the two minded, in fact they loved it.  No parents badgering them about what to do and not do.  They had each other and of course their mansion maid.  Or as they called her mansmaid.  She was more like their mom than their real one.

As they reached the third floor entering the giant size loft that was Mel's room Iyanna plopped on the bed checking her cell seeing that they had a little over 40 minutes to get this show on the road.  With an impatient groan Iy reminded Mel that time was becoming more prescious and if she still wanted to play dress up shed better get-to-gettin'.  Mel ran to one of her three closets throwing out at least ten swim suits or as Iyanna put it barely shoe string bikini.  They were Brazilian and right now all the rage.  Melony saw Jessica Alba in one and knew right then and there she had to have one or two or ten.  Tossing Iy the tiniest one of them all she yelled to put it on.  It was a strapless devil red one with a little rhinestone that was black in between the bust and little florliel like patterns that lined the sweartheart top.  The bottom was just as reveling.  It was the opposite of the top.  It was black with two shiney red rings and sinful chain like things that connected the sides at the hip with red trim sewed on the very top.  "Boy my parents would kill me if they saw me in this get up.  I'd be thrown in with a bunch of nuns.  I can't believe I let you talk me into this. I hope you are happy and its worth it." Iy told Mel as she gawked at her self in the mirror.  "Well throw some buckets of cold water on ya girl, cause your blazing hot".  Turning with a quick gerk to see who said that she saw Kane standing in the door way with a wiley fox like grin on his face showing off his pearly white perfect teeth. He was anything but ugly that was for sure.  He had a bronze like tan with black hair that was so dark it almost seemed like it had small hints of blue in it.  He looked imaginably delicious but no chance would Iy ever wind up with him.  In her wild dreams maybe but he was her best friends big brother and would be 21 the same day shed only be making 16.  "Shut up K and go do your usual howling at some one else! We need to finish getting ready and you are no help!"  Mel said waving her hand at him.  "No need for a fuss M I was just coming to let you know that I would be gone for the night and to not wait up....you know business as always." Finishing the final touches the two girls were off for a fun day in the sun.

I like your writing and can see great potential in it.
You seem to excel in descriptives. Some of your sentences could do with shortening BUT that always comes with time. I wuld have like to have seen Ly talk a bit more BUT it didn't distract from what was a good short story.

Again, you painted a good picture of who Ly was (bit of a firecracker I think)

Mark.
