Excuse

Excuse

A Poem by Amina.

In this farewell
I stand alone.
No one to help me,
no one that sees me,
no one to tell me:
you're better off without.

I wanted to see
the other side,
the darker side.
I did it for you,
that was my excuse.
But I know so much better,

and so do you.
But you don't care,
not anymore.
Neither do I.
I only want to live
a life that doesn't hurt.

I'm standing on the edge
between right and wrong.

I have to choose
between you and me.

That is my excuse.

I like the use of your repeated line "that was my excuse" so that we are left with a sense that the poet doesn't know the true reason either, or isn't telling.
PS. English is not my first language either. :)
