Nightmare

Nightmare

A Poem by shilhib

The clock strikes at three
But my eyes are all wide
Like a river stretching out
To become an ocean
Hearing the sound of the silence
A night that echoes the beat
Of a heart that longs to erase the past
Earlier that day
There was only wandering
Sand beneath my feet
As I watched the horizon
That soon turned into zenith
The sound of the lullaby
Woke me up from my trance
Making me realize
That my sand-covered feet
Are now buried in the water
Slowly, it crept 'till it reached
My neck, then my chin, my lips
Then my nose; it was suffocating
Until the last breath
That I could have had
My body stiffened, expecting death
But Morpheus bid its goodbye
I saw myself on my bed
Sweating, panting, trembling
As I was being chased by the past
Leave me, leave me, leave me
Let me escape as I drown again.
