Chapter 1: Head GirlA Chapter by LaLaLandyThe stone wall inbetween Platforms 9 and 10 wasn't fooling Rebecca. It looked solid, it looked real, but as soon as she gained speed to rush right through the middle, all her anxiety subsided, and she, like the passed 6 years before, realized it was magic. People rushed by her to get to the red and yellow train with the incription "The Hogwarts Express" on the side, where Prefects stood, taking their house's luggage and throwing it in the under compartments of the train. Kids in all the colors of the Hogwarts houses ran around, some with parents, some with friends. After the Second Wizarding War, everything was finally feeling normal. Magic. The word crossed her mind quickly, and she smiled to herself. Before she was eleven, she never would've thought magic even existed. She grew up in a muggle community, only a few hours outside London. She went to a muggle school, and had muggle parents. It was still so magical... so surprising and alluring and unpredictable. "Rebecca! Rebecca?" At first she thought that was the voice of her mother, who she had bid goodbye with in the parking lot by their truck. But then her eyes landed on the frantic ones of Mrs. Chang rushing along, her long black hair messy and her face concerned and shocked. Mrs. Chang pulled Rebecca into a bone-crushing hug, and Rebecca had to tap her back with such force that she squirmed just to get her off. She held Rebecca at arms length, taking in her long red hair, straight as a whip, and her green eyes that were slightly hidden by side-swept bangs. She was pale, but thinner and taller than Mrs. Chang remembered. "Oh, Rebecca, honey! How good to see you!" Mrs. Chang pulled on her hand while her husband, muggle Howard Change, nodded politely to Rebecca before taking her cart to Cho, where they were headed. Cho Chang with her long black hair like her moms, dark brown eyes, and sweet smile stood by one of the opened compartments, in her blue and bronze tie and robes. As a prefect, she was helping out first years, and putting away the luggage. "Are you getting to Diagon Alley alright? Getting your stuff? Are your parents having any problems with the Wizarding World at all? They know we are here for them!" Mrs. Chang blabbered on, and Cho saw them almost immediatly, and rushed over to give Rebecca a hug. She laughed at her best friend's excitment, and puleld Cho's warm arms off her. "Hey, Cho!" "Oh, Rebecca, I missed you over the summer!" She said in her sweet, happy voice. She grabbed Rebecca's hand and brought her down the length of the train, giving a quick goodbye to her parents. "But we can talk later, because McGonagall has been looking everywhere for you! Your Head Girl!" Cho's eyes shone with happiness for her friend. "You need to see her for your meeting! I'm so happy for you! But you need to go!" Cho gave Rebecca a push up the stairs and she headed down the hallway to the last compartment, labeled "Head Of Hogwarts." Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, she could distantly hear the yells and swishes of excited students and their wands as they performed spells, as they made their friends laugh and 'awe'. She pushed the cart open, finding a room with two benches, one on either side against each wall, and a window on the far wall. Next to the door was an assortment of candies and drinks on a little corner counter, with cupards below and above. In the middle was a wooden table. McGonagall stopped talking when she looked up to see Rebecca there, before she smiled. "Good to see you, Miss Hull." Rebecca smiled. "You too, Professor." The older witch's eyes landed on the Head Boy who sat across from her, and she motioned Rebecca to sit next to him. Rebecca looked at the boy. He had ice blue eyes, with pale blonde hair that went slightly passed his ears and pale skin. His school robes were green and silver, the normal Slytherin attair, and he wasn't smiling, just looking at the floor. Rebecca slowly sat down next to Draco Malfoy, never really expecting to see him at all this year. His father had been put away in Askaban, and his mother banished from the wizarding world. But Draco had been freed from punishments, for reasons that didnt get exposed to the public, but she was more that slightly frigtened that she would be spending the whole year living in the same common room as this boy. "Well, now that both of you are here, I have a few maters to discuss." McGonagall started, looking both students in the eyes."First off, I would like to say congradulations! Both of you had been remarkable students through out the years." Yeah, remarkable. "Second, I would like to remind you that your common room is ready and you will be living there as of tonight. I will lead you there after the feast. Thirdly, there have been some changes this year to our school. All seventh years will be able to apprentice teachers, if they wish. I am aware you both want to be Potions Masters still?" They both nodded, and Rebecca snuck a look at Draco. He looked pretty sad, and Rebecca was feeling defeated. She had kinda hoped Seamus or Harry or one of the Gryffindors she fairly know would be helping her during her last year of school, but she had been put with Draci Malfoy. Well, whatever challenge Rowena Ravenclaw put in front of her, Rebecca would accept and do whatever it took to pass and score. "Well, you both will be able to help and learn from Professor Slughorn for half the day, help with classes, with his potions, and he'll be required to teach you an hour after school about his work. The other half the day is spent however you want, wiether you want more time to be with his other two apprentices, or you want to apprentice under another Professor, or just take the time off. But we will need to know before tomorrow morning, before classes." She stood to leave. "I would appreciate it if you two stayed and talked or got to know eachother for the remainder of the trip, as you do have to write up a speech for tonight's dinner." She left, leaving an awkward silence over the two of them. Sighing, Rebecca grabbed a quill and a piece of parchment from her bag, setting it on the table in frnt of her. "Any ideas how to start?" Rebecca asked him. He just shrugged. "'Welcome back to Hogwarts?' Isnt that kind of a given?" Rebecca rolled her eyes, but wrote that down. "I was thinking something more original, but at least you're helping." He let out a little laugh and sat back, throwing his arms over the back of the couch. "I wasn't helping, I was simply stating what a smart Ravenclaw like you should have figured out." Draco's hand touched her shoulder, giving it a soft rub, and she scooted to the other couch, watching him smile. She narrowed her eyes. "Are we going to fight about weither you are helping or not?" "We don't have to." Draco replied, smirking at her and giving her a wink. Was it her, or was Draco much more... affectionate? Or was he just acting out to annoy her. "You can just take a hint and do it yourself." Rebecca let otu a sound of disgust, but figured that was her best option. © 2011 LaLaLandyAuthor's Note
