La Diosa Morena

La Diosa Morena

A Poem by Alexandria Harris
"

a poem about the beauty of a woman, the power of being a goddess

"

I am a black goddess
From my chest to my hips to my thighs and feet
Perfection is born. Making my way through life with finesse
There’s no reason for me to hide and be discreet.
I’m a chocolate tower of exquisite taste;
Every time I speak, I spit wisdom.
It would be a shame for all this to go to waste.
I’m so pure it hurts because it’s divine
Pushing through life like a blessed tornado
And always grinding to get what’s mine.

I’m only what my mama gave and my Creator made
I bet you never met a woman like me
So intelligent it hurts, so charming it works
And all the boys and girls buzz around me like bees
Drawn to me.
And I understand only a few can say
All of these bold, unbridled words.
Don’t worry, I’ll back it up, take your bet, hit the jackpot
And for this you may think me absurd
Which would be your prerogative and fine.
 I’ll turn on my smile
And be what my mama gave and my Creator made;
Still a black goddess.

And modest too. What a woman. Phenomenal woman?

Very beautiful it is reminiscent of Maya Angelou who if anyone do you draw on for inspiration?
Is this the final adaptation?
It might benefit from parallel grammar structure.
Do you take or teach classes or is this recreational?
I like the lyrical nature of the prose.
