Across The School YardA Poem by LaDain JacksonMy Protest to all school shootings and anything related.
I lay on the hill looking down at the past remembering how things used to be
I hold each memory like a wave right before it hits the shore which forces me to never forget each moment as it comes
Now that my adolescent years continue I feel pride in idolizing a figure like Jim Morrison as I desire to be like someone different who stands out
While I am standing I look over seeing a rifle in hands that look just as juvenile and inexperienced as mine
He walks on while I wonder what are all of his possible motives then I think to myself if this is because of him feeling alone or another individual labeled as an outcast then may we all be called ugly, loser, weird, and down the line be considered nothing
I may never know what he is really reaching out for but if I ever were to look into his own past all I wonder about is the innocence that we are all born with
If we ever had a chance to go back and see what the future holds then may every child playing in their yard or playground march the streets armed with their own rifles
From this I now question my own pride and ideas of identity that stick out like the heart of a lion who never knows what battle there is to come
Even though I look up high awaiting my future I follow the influence of legendary figures whose fire that can be lit by our raging hormones
With these thoughts it makes me think of other things that influence us in this stage of our lives which are examples of drugs, alcohol, and violence that hit us hard like thunder in a storm
With my mind further in the clouds and my head buried deeper into the sand I end up ignoring the young man with the rifle in effort to be in denial that this is real
But when reality does come it is not always pleasant and it can strike just as deadly
After I hear a bang noise I am now startled by this reality then when I move closer to it I look and see blood and bullets on the grass
