Safe DistanceA Poem by LScottDMore autobiographical sunshine!
I long ago learned
To use it like a cloak.. To wear it when needed To provide safety... Indifference I could stare out from within its folds... Observing The danger, the taunts, the pain, the risk.... Muffled within it`s darkness Safety You could strike me... I`d hardly feel You could reject me... It wouldn`t sting You could love me... I wouldn`t notice Hidden Distance is security... But it`s comfort is cold and empty As the years roll on The distance becomes... Involuntary What once was a refuge... Now a cage Locked inside... Without a key Imprisoned Once a safe haven.. Now a trap Breeding contempt... Lashing out from within At anyone foolish enough.. To stray too close Waiting I`m watching you You keep a safe distance But sooner or later... You will slip up And when you do... I will pounce And then you can see... From my eyes... The tunnel from my soul To the world... But at a distance © 2011 LScottDAuthor's Note
