The Ego's Malice

The Ego's Malice

A Poem by Luke Rawlings

The lake softly weeps within the circle of vigilant roses.
The water shimmers red; Poseidon’s tumbler or Narcissus’ mirror?
Enchained by nothing.
‘Cept the cold hard ground.

The sunlight dances with the waves; hand in glove.

A wandering man wanders upon the shore.
His eyes cast to the beauty of the rose.
A fleeting second.
Ignorance abound.
The lake unknown; seething depths of attrition and life.

Fragrance of rose petal coils into the air.
The flowers burn like a candle.
Snuffed out by the storm.
