Impulse

Impulse

A Poem by Luke Rawlings

The fluidity of the water as it
Rushes over the chaos below
Reminds me of the fresh blood
That drains from that first wound
When you fall and that pain where
It bites and crawls like the bugs that
Call the water their home and feed
The Krakens below the surface. Life
Seems to echo this reality at every
Turn, the serene flow of the water
Masking the seething reality that burns
And churns like molten revenge
Cast forth from the bowels of the Earth
In a wave of heat and passion. How can
We as creations hope to fight
That which burns in each of us?
