Tell Your Mother

Tell Your Mother

A Poem by Lola Nation

You’re Ma

when I feel disrespectful

maybe telling you something that stems

from your faults with me;

You’re Mommy when I need you more than

God.

and You're Mama when I need some help

with something like a recipe.

And in the end, you’re everything.

Very nice write leading to a special, unexpected, surprise-treat at the end! Would make a sentimental gift for a mom printed in a nice font and encased in a frame or on a plaque.

aw. I always use Momma, because I have read Dorothy Allison.

Ouch. This is very powerful, very hard hitting in a beautiful way. I think all mothers have a zillion names, don't they, depending on their children's moods and wants at the time!

I love it when a poem is powerfully concise like this.

(One thing, wrong "you're" in the third last line, I think, unless it's meant to be referring to someone else's mama?)
