SarahA Poem by Lola Nationa character
Sunburn scratch, sets you free
dead cells of a life once lived,
falling of particles at a time
dust to dust
you were mine.
I take for granted,
most everything I know
the comings, goings
the sun and the fresh look of snow,
I take it in and forget again
You’re pretty as can be
Spring, fall – I vacillate
I get high and I go down
medication isn’t enough
in any prescription strength
of you gets me every time
summer, winter
the hot and cold faucets of me
you wind down
I reveal my insecurity
And you always embrace
with full, thin arms,
tight and so fragile
I don’t want to break you
Not the way they broke me
I’m going back again,
the circle has come full
and it could change everything;
or it may all remain the same
I can’t tell which way
