I spent it allA Poem by Lola Nationif I could I would
I spent your gas money.
I drank the last of your milk,
I parked your car in a handicap spot
deciding to walk to the bus stop.
Just to see what it would be like.
Hailing a taxi instead…
I tried to be a jerk, but I couldn’t get off,
So I circled the block on your bmx bike
until the tires rolled off and then, just then
It came to me, like a mint condition
moment in high school; during yearbook
signing
the perfect message
promising not to lose touch
Not like now, that you’re on empty
And I’ve got a full pack of GPCs;
Not like this morning when you got up for cereal
and drank water with vitamins instead;
Not like now, not like then
Not like ever
will we return to the way things were
or should be.
