Feiona IntroductionA Chapter by LM2819873 WEEK LATER… Feiona
Cunningham wakes up to have her alarm going off in her ears. The clock reads
630AM. The annoying buzzing echoes throughout the apt. She slams her hand on
the snooze button and turns over. Her long blond hairs shield her eyes from the
morning glare. Her curtains never fully close all the way and as a result the
morning rays always seem to bleed through to her eyes blinding her in the
morning. She reluctantly gets up, stretching and yawning and rubbing her eyes. Feiona
is
a beautiful young woman in her late twenties with a pale complexion, blue-green
eyes and long wild curly blonde hair, which she often wears in a variety of
different styles; straight, curly, or tied up in a tight bun, which she wears
for work. She is slim, yet due to her being a cop; she is toned with an
athletic figure. Her blond hair was a great mess and
it seemed as if it were a large bee’s nest and at any moment bees would swarm
out and fill her small apt. She scratched the nest of hair and looked around;
not a big studio only enough room for a couch and her bed and a tiny TV. Her
“bedroom” if you can call it that is also her living room and her dinning room.
Her kitchen is only two or three short step away from her bed. Her bathroom has
the only door in the apt except for the front door. It’s not easy living in
Manhattan or cheap for that matter. She has pictures from graduating school and
the police academy with her parents and friends that cover the purple walls of
her apt, but none that show she has a boyfriend; ‘she was way too busy for all
that’, she always tells herself. Feiona was never a morning person;
in fact she couldn’t do much work until she had her first cup of morning coffee
and than another when she got to work. Her head couldn’t be clear until she
drank that which gives her life; it helped her get thru college and the police
academy. She gets out of bed and starts a pot of coffee, turns on the TV and
begins her morning routine; 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups and 20 pull-ups. When she
finishes she turns on the water and gets into the shower. She can barely hear
the TV reporter’s voice over the shower’s jets. The hot water splashes on her
face and it feels amazing as it washes away the night. Steam from the hot water
fills up the bathroom. The Bathroom is entirely pink. The
tub is pink and the toilet is pink and even the tiles are pink. Feiona is not a
huge fan of the color pink or purple for that matter, but it was all like that
when she moved in and too expansive to change as she later found out. “A
princes must’ve lived here” her father teased her when he helped moved her in.
It didn’t bother her all that much; it was better than some of the other
apartments she looked at when she just moved to the city. She was never at home
always spending all her time at work only returning to seep and shower and
occasionally eat. The coffee is already ready by the
time she gets out of the shower and puts on her police uniform, a dark navy
blue button up shirt and same color pants with shiny black shoes. NYPD written
on the shoulder and a golden badge pined on the front. She can smell the aroma
of the hot coffee as it fills the room with its amazing rich scent of roasted
beans. The invigorating odor lifted the final veil of sleep from Feiona and she
is almost ready to start her day. She ties her wet hair into a tight bun and
puts her gun in her holster and heads into the kitchen, following the rich
smell. She is the only cop in a family
full of lawyers and doctors. Her mother went to law school but didn’t graduate
because she wanted to stay home and raise her. Her father is an emergency room
doctor. She also happens to be the only child of her parents and growing up her
parents dotted on her. Feiona’s job brings much fear into her father who
worries too much, she is all he has left, but she loves what she does. She even
knew what she wanted do as a child. Whenever someone would ask what she wanted
to be when she grew-up she would always tell them the same thing: I want to be
a cop, put the bad guys away or bad girls. Her parents’ probably thought it was
cute at first and hoped she would grow out of it someday, but she never did.
She has a great memory and a flair for solving puzzles. She has a great need to
fix all things that are broken and that includes people. This drives her to
right wrongs and to be pushy. This is
why she doesn’t only want to be an ordinary traffic cop who writes tickets all
day long, but she wants to be a detective and solve crimes that really make a
difference. She wants to make a difference. Feiona has a good instinct about
people, always being able to see the real person behind their façade and she
picks up on the elephant in the room, nothing gets past her, which gives her
confidence. She follows her gut, which has saved her life on duty and off, on
more than one occasion so she learned to trust it. She always thought that
rules where ‘made to be followed not
broken’, in order to have real order in a society. She believed and honored those who upheld
that law and was always drawn to that. She enters the kitchen and listens
to the TV for the first time as she pours herself a cup of coffee into a tall
black thermos with milk and 2 sugars. A woman on the news is reporting about a
missing person. The reporter shows the picture of a handsome tall man with
shaggy brown hair uncombed and a week old beard. He wears a grey suit that
looks like it has never been ironed with an untied tie around his neck and red
sneakers. Feiona notices the person in the picture right away. It’s the most
famous person and detective in New York City, Thomas Candle. The photo did not
do him justice he looked like a well-dressed homeless man. It was a candid shot
of him running away from whom ever was taking the photo. You could tell it was
NYC because one of the famous yellow cabs is behind him probably honking. Feiona
turns up the volume and listens to the report. “It’s been almost two
weeks since Det Thomas Candle caught Malcolm Mayhem, a man who went on a
killing spree here in Manhattan last month. Killing 3 women and 4 men and
scattering their bodies’ all over the city, our very own Jack the ripper. You
may remember det Candle started a riot during a protest in order to catch
Mayhem, which didn’t go to well with the police, who were trying to keep the
peace. Det Candle was last seen at a local bar, The Two Headed Goat,
celebrating the closing of the case as he usually does drinking with his
friends and fellow detectives till the early hours the next day, where he was
last scene by the bar owner, a friend. It has been rumored that he went to
France the next day to consult with the prime minister about the strange
murders that haunt the streets of Paris, but word back from the minister’s
office say there is no truth in that story, and that they are close on catching
that killer on their own. The ware abuts of BermanCandle’ s “golden boy” is
even a mystery to his board members. One detective who works inside the Agency
is not too worried and says, “He goes missing often and always turns up to
scoop up all the interesting cases. Tom does what he wants, always have and most
probably always will”. He also said when pushed that they “are bringing someone
in to look closer into that matter if it goes on for too long”. This isn’t
unusual behavior for the troubled detective who has a history of going missing,
bar fighting, and doing everything that pops into his head, his unusual tactics
to catch criminals however is matched by no one and it has been said that Det.
Candle can close a case just by reading the file, which is why the mayor puts
up with his craziness. Thomas’s “shenanigans ” as others put it have gotten
more and more elaborate since the death of his father det William Candle in a
factory fire almost 8 years ago. Detective Thomas Candle’s parents were victims
of the serial killer known as Alpha. They were just a few of his long list of
victims. Thomas has made it his life’s mission to catch and kill Alpha for what
he has done to his family and that of countless others, but with more and more
time that seems to be dwindling since no one has herd from Alpha since that blazing
night, turning Alpha in a legend on par with the Zodiac killer which remains
open to this day. Where is Thomas Candle now and when will he return only time
will tell. In other news Police still have no clues about a missing
local girl on New Years Eve. She has blond hair and was last seen in Time
Square celebrating the New Year with her friends before separating. The police
are asking anyone with any information to come forward.” Feiona turns off the TV and goes
out the door, to work. © 2015 LM281987 |
