shipsA Poem by L.L PriceThe distance between two people even when they are not apart; one yearns to close it.
you were gone for some time, she had said. don't you know the world becomes empty when you are gone? don't you know that time stops & trickles like drops from an empty faucet; & nothing saturates this emptiness. not when you are gone. not water not time not lips of strangers. with every beating of the heart, blood flows & opens & covers that space. when you are away from me, do you not drown? she asks. do your lungs not fold & unfold & ache for the breath of me? well, i drown. & you tell me 'happiness gloats , but sadness floats'; i should be good for miles at sea.
