I BELIEVE

I BELIEVE

A Poem by Holi Hudson
"

THIS IS MY I BELIEVE RANT. ;D

"

JUST TO SET THE RECORDS STRAIGHT,

I DON'T EXPECT YOU TO AGREE,
HELL, I DON'T EVEN EXPECT YOU TO READ.
I'M JUST TIRED OF PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT THEY
BELIEVE IN THIS OR THAT,
AND THEN THEY BASH SOMETHING THAT IT STANDS FOR.

HATEHATEHATE DISCRIMINATION.
AGAINST RACE, GENDER, SEXUALITY, RELIGION, ETC.

I BELIEVE JESUS WANTS US TO LOVE EVERYONE
DESPITE THEIR SINFUL NATURE, OR BACK GROUND.
BECAUSE NO ONE'S PERFECT.
SO DON'T ACT LIKE YOU ARE BY DISCRIMINATIN'.

I'VE OFFICIALLY DECIDED I'M AN OPEN MINDED CHRISTIAN.
METHODISTS ARE BORING,
METHODISTS AREN'T UP FOR CHANGE.
ATLEAST NOT THE ONES I KNOW.

NOW;

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST.
I BELIEVE HE DIED ON THE CROSS,
WAS BURIED,
AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD,
ALL FOR OUR WELL-BEING.

I BELIEVE WE'RE ONLY HUMAN.

I BELIEVE IN HUMAN RIGHTS
WHICH GOES TO SAY, I BELIEVE
GAYS SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO MARRY.
NOT THAT I BELIEVE GAY MARRIAGE IS RIGHT,
BUT THAT THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO IT.
THERE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A THING CALLED
SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.
IT SHOULDN'T BE UP TO THE GOVERNMENT TO TELL
US WHO CAN AND CAN'T BE MARRIED.
MARRIAGE IS A HUMAN RIGHT.
WE SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE WHETHER TO
BE SINFUL OR NOT, ONLY BECAUSE IT'S OUR CHOICE TO MAKE.

I BELIEVE GOD GAVE US THE BIBLE AND ALL THAT JAZZ
SO THAT WE HAD A CHOICE WHETHER TO BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

I BELIEVE ALL SIN IS EQUAL.
YOU CAN BE GAY,
MURDER SOMEONE,
STEAL A LOAF OF BREAD,
ALL OF THAT IS THE SAME IN GOD'S EYES.

I BELIEVE IN LOVE.

I BELIEVE IN SECOND CHANCES,
AND THIRD, AND FORTH...

I BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE,
BUT I'M PRETTY SURE HEAVEN IS
A LOT HARDER TO GET INTO THAN
WE WANT TO BELIEVE.

I BELIEVE IN RELIGOUS CHOICE.
I BELIEVE IT'S NOT UP TO US TO
CHOOSE WHAT IS AND WHAT IS NOT
ACCEPTABLE.
IT'S ALL UP TO THE BIG GUY.

I BELIEVE JESUS JUST WANTS US TO
GET DOWN WITH OUR BAD FUNKY SELVES
AND HAVE A GOOD TIME.

I BELIEVE JESUS WOULD GET A KICK OUT OF
THINGS LIKE RAPTOR JESUS, AND LOLCREATIONISM.
BECAUSE I BELIEVE JESUS HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR.

I BELIEVE IN BEING HONEST.
I BELIEVE THERE'S STILL SOME GOOD IN THE WORLD.

I BELIEVE IN HARVEY DENT.

THIS ISN'T REALLY A POEM. IT'S MORE OF A RANT, BUT IT COULD PASS AS FREEVERSE, YES? . . .

I am a fan of rants. The main reason being that in ranting, we tend to put all the plastic aside and go with what we are thinking and feeling. There is no "oh my, should I say that - can I say that" or any of that crap. We rip off the filters and we let out what we have to say - what we believe. Though they may not always remain true and though they may simply offer a glimpse into the greater picture of the depth of our character; they generally offer a simpler and more truthful view of our nature...

...in regards to separation of church and state, well - it was more a case of the state not telling us what church we need to go to...

...but still, I have never really understood the whole mess in regards to marriage. It comes down to a term, in my most not in the least humble opinion - marriage. We tend to attribute the religious bit to marriage, but in all honesty - marriage has been around before much of the religious groups that claim the term. I used to believe in two ceremonies - a civil and a religious ceremony, with the idea that the term "marriage" only apply to religious unions - while if anybody wanted the government related bits - they would have to get a civil union. This was relatively petty now that I think about it - because generally speaking, this is what we have been doing without using the terms.

Marriage is a business contract between two parties - gender should not play a part in that. As long as they are able to give consent, then tada - let anybody that wants to get their marriage. At the same time, any church should be able to deny performing the ceremony for them... they should not be able to fight for the right to get married in a specific church sort of thing...

...oh well, I would have rambled more - but I think that sleep is finally catching up to me.

[what he said ^]

Remember when we almost lost our friendship over this angry god who hates gay marriage because "they're swearing in front of God to go against his commands" ? Sad days.

!!!!

Wait a second! This is what you have on your MySpace, only slightly extended. Hah.
