Ballad of a Broken Bachelor

Ballad of a Broken Bachelor

A Poem by Lewis Davis-Norman
"

First in half a year, good to see that I'm staying consistent

"

Barefoot, one knee, blackened brothel

Baby, will you marry me?

Can we cut the s**t and cut the cake

And live in loving misery?

For all my life I've been swimming

In cigarettes and horoscopes,

Cheap liquor and seedy romance

Hotel rooms dressed in smoke

You’ll never have to work again

My sheets are made of ten-pound notes

I could have tigers on my back lawn

And my ceiling would still be made of rope

So baby will you marry me

And join me in cold bliss

At the altar, cloaked in white

And share a frosty kiss?

I like this. It's real. It's not what you would expect, but it's raw and honest.

Who could turn down such an honest proposal? Cuts to the heart of it, Lewis - great piece!

"I've been swimming In cigarettes" will be the title of my aunt's autobiography.. LOL she smokes like four packets a day.. unreal. Haha you make marriage sound terribly fun. So much for the on top of the moon kinda romances, you keep it real and boy do I enjoy this side of poetry. Love, love, love it! Good stuff
