The Interview

The Interview

A Poem by Lewis Davis-Norman
"

This is a dark one, let me know what you think!

"

Reporter: Excuse me sir, have you a moment?

Man: I have a tortured lifetime.

Reporter: What is this place of lifeless stone?

Man: It is the slaughterhouse of evil.

Reporter: Why do the trees appear to whisper?

Man: For if they shout, they fall.

Reporter: Why won’t the Songthrush bless our ears?

Man: It fled to save its eyes.

Reporter: Why do the men droop in grey silence?

Man: They had their tears confiscated.

Reporter: What happened in this bitter place?

Man: The abhorred slowly perished.

Reporter: Why were these creatures vehemently despised?

Man: Their vile blood existed.

Reporter: What callous crimes did they commit?

Man: They claimed to have the right to live.

Reporter: What happened to these frightful beings?

Man: Their evil was cleansed by fire.

Reporter: Excuse me sir, but who are you?

Man: I am the blessed dictator

This plays right up my alley! I love these kind of exchanges, duel of the words, where logic and reason are questioned! And of course the final punch with the revelation at the end is perfect. Should we laugh? Should we feel incomfortable? Excellent work!

Thank you very much, your reviews are always appreciated! :)
Wow, this is amazing. Dark stuff, really dark stuff. History put into such words is by far more interesting. You can practically feel haunting winds and smell the smoke and and see the emptied streets, and hear the hell-ish silence. Well, well done!

Thank you so much!
Lewis,

OMG what a superb expose of the horrific treatment of humanity in Europe in the 1930's and 40's by this demon and his henchmen. You have resurrected the memory of this era which we need reminded of lest we allow it to happen again.

Unfortunately, it is ongoing with smaller populations today; and the world seems to just ignore it. " It won't happen here; to me."

Would you consider having it published? Your poem is so unique I believe people will read it. This message is necessary as a painful reminder of will happen again if we let our guard down.

Thank you for sharing this insightful and well written poem.

His evil actions should be a warning to every heart that chooses to grade the value of another. Love for others either is the rule or something else will be... You do not get the luxury of a middle ground! We will never forget these lessons! Will we? Are there no history lessons where terror grows? I wonder...
Well done.

A very good question. The evil history lessons, I assume, tell far different stories to us. Thank yo.. read more
i agree with the other review...the end was a surprise...my feeling as i was reading this was that it was about how we bullied and stole the land from the Indians.

this is powerful stuff.

and the way you present this, pretty clever.
