A Legacy Never Left

A Legacy Never Left

A Poem by EL LAO

I tasted a drop of salt

I tasted a pinch of sourness

I tasted a hint of bitterness

All these from a single breathe

A breathe that came to be my last

I have expected and waited for this day

I have prepared and never feared

Yet these emotions still flourish

I never accomplished what I strived for

A legacy that would speak for ages

Ages, since I will not last as long

Death has and arrives to take me away

Never allowing me to complete my goal

I anguish and cringe every time I know this

Is fate that cruel that I may not stay here

One more day, one more week, on more year

I need time, so I can complete this legacy

A legacy that will surpass my death

So that I may live forever

For why do we have life

If it is not to live forever

What are we?
Fragments of a dream of a gentle creator
Remains of a misunderstood immortality
We are unlived memories
The longing for a life not always lived
