Saturdays

Saturdays

A Poem by LA Lorena

Saturday mornings
coffee cup in hand
I stare glassily
at the flyers,
gazing longingly
at the bevvy
of pretty shoes
and handbags
on sale this week
A grunt of disapproval
He knows what I'm about
Spoil sport!
how many shoes and purses
can one woman need?
it's a rhetorical question
when asked of one woman
with three closets
and an empty heart

oooooh the last line gives poignant contrast.

Bravo. Such a clear depiction. I really enjoy the sparkle in your eyes contrasted with the quippy response to reading his thoughts. The age old predicament of an empty heart and the even older solution--of pretty shoes.
Well done.

haha very nice!! I like the killer ending - it has a subtle humour throughout mostly - the longing for the shoes - the "spoil sport" - but then it hits hard with the "and an empty heart" - that really gives it a kick and changes how I read it - a new layer to it! nicely done!

This is perfect! You have captured the longing, both intrinsic and unrequited, very cleverly and the ending is superb. Nicely done!
