have we become so desensitized

or are we merely rendered mute?

when atrocities are commonplace

and bullets end disputes

 

exposed are we to everything

but do we really see?

that the world's become with progress

a corrupt and lawless society

 

kindness meets suspicion

you've got to mind your back

women afraid to walk the street

without fear of an attack

 

innocent babes are slaughtered

all in the name of war

another twenty years of progress?

see what the future has in store

 

young men glorifying gang life

no lofty aspirations do they seek

afraid to raise our conscious voice

we turn collective cheek

 

unhuman kind continues

to fester, bleed and grow

the world looks on with unseeing eyes

as we harvest what we sow

i've hesitated responding to this because my feelings are mixed. on the one hand, i agree that the world can be a scary, threatening place and it doesn't show any signs of changing. on the other hand, i see it as always having been like this. the only escalation in the violence is due to advances in technology. it both makes violence easier and it makes us instantly aware of violence all over the world, 24-7. so our perception is a huge increase in violence, but in reality, a lot of the increase is in our awareness of it. and none of this is an excuse to do nothing about it. sitting back and watching the world go to hell is never a good option. but what to do? that's for each of us to answer for ourselves.

I agree with every word, line, stanza you've written above .. sometimes feel so desperately sad about MANKIND, how easily people resort to cruely and spite, selfishness and all else because holding back and thinking doesn't come into our so called civilisation.

May I ask a question to you, your friends, reviewers.. very simple but so often in my mind, please: So many schools - all grades, colleges and universitites world. over use tv screens for learning, or rather, for teaching - giving facts and examples. YES ? It's considered as a means of reaching the most amount of youngsters. YES?

So why are are the majority of movies, programmes etc, full of violence, body after body being mutilated, shot down, turned into werewolves, zombies and goodness knows what?????? Isn't there enough violence in our real world to glorify more for mere entertainment? The end. Apologies.

As large as this world is the smaller it has become, allowing us to see in our neighbours back yards and seeing the grass is not as green as we thought, we have to turn our cheek to survive our own misgivings and in our own little patch of planet
