Sorry, but I just don't understand the random friend requests. Read on, and if you still dare.........

A friend you want to make of me

I'm really quite impressed

You've never spoken to me

so what's up with this request?

I've never read a word you wrote

nor have you read a one of mine

what makes you oh so certain

that we'd suit each other fine?

If you want to be my friend here

send a message, review a poem

Or I'll simply select "forget it"

and you'll sit there all alone

 

Now lest you think I'm shallow

or compassion do I lack

it's nothing really personal

its simply white or black

I mean no slight, or offense at all

and I'm sure you're very nice

but I'm up to here with hollow friends

and acquaintances in life

So if you want to get to know me

In kind I will do the same

But if you're looking to boost your numbers up

I'm afraid I don't play that game

This is oh so very true. I get them also out of the blue.
First I go and look at their "about me," just to see who they are. Usually I find nothing there. That usually stops me from going further. Or I may read something they've written to see if there is anything I find interesting. If so, I may review. Most times, I will read and not review because I found nothing to interest me.
Obviously, their idea of "friend" is totally different than mine.
(And I would have asked to become your friend after reading this, if we weren't already.)

Ha i guess i'll read more of you then... I send friend requested to people after i read a few things and decide i like them, but i don't review near as often as i read. I don't have really all that much to say. I also tend to drift through friends. For a while i'll review big on some people, then i'll start reviewing others and just sort of,, drift. I understand your point here and I respect it though. Creative write :)

I've written about this in the past, it has always been a problem here. I don't understand the mentality of those who just collect avatars for their friends list without reviewing anything or saying a word. I'm careful about it now. I also check their stats if I accept.

I get this all the time...I always read a sample of a requester's work before deciding; I have hit decline more in the past month than in the previous 13 I've been here. Mostly it's teenagers from other countries I cannot pronounce or couldn't find on the globe if you had a gun to my head, writing about how dark and broody they are...as though I give a...Meanwhile, I like your writing, and I enjoy reading you, but it's not going to kill me if we don't friend one another...oh my aching a*s...friend is a verb now...unfuckingbelievable.

Allow me to play the Devils' advocate. While I'm sure there are those who have a perverse motive to befriend one I would argue that there are other legitimate and rational reasons to approach a friend request, "out of the blue".

Being new to W.C. and not knowing the writers here I would scan the new feeds looking for anything that would peak my interest. It might be the beginning of a piece or an avatar. Finding something of interest I would then read the piece. If that interested me I may then want to know more about the author or read more of their work. That would take me to their home page and profile. If I liked what I read I might look to their profile. Lo and behold, right there on their profile would be a notice that read something like; "You must be this persons friend to read the rest of their profile." So now I hit the friend request button. Where have I gone wrong? This very thing has caused me to be blocked.

I see your point Clayton. I have no issue with someone sending a request, just so long as they at least go so far as to at least introduce themselves in a line or two to my inbox. If someone blocks you for doing just that, you either have to look at what it was you said, or just be happy that you are not an uptight a*****e like they are.;)
