The Poetess

The Poetess

A Poem by LA Lorena

All she can not speak aloud

she lays bare with strokes of ink

A nom de plume for courage

to express the thoughts she thinks

It creeps upon the moonlight

feasts on missives from the past

lifts her veil of anonymity

peers 'neath her painted mask

A solitary refuge

A sacred haven is her goal

breach the inner sanctuary

surreptitiously steal her soul

We all have our means of being self. You've retained you very .. what's the right word .. appropriately .. inasmuch you're explained your why and what for. Our words can be interpreted, believed or doubted, some even think we write in blood. You are able to do all that, still be you, so help you God. Probably. Good for you :)

Aptly describing a poetess...truly herself once she puts the pen on paper...then the mask slips...A brief but beautifully worded poem that I liked a lot.

Words from your soul. Especially like the veil of anonymity being lifted. Sometimes we all need one of those.

thanks for reading and commenting Lorry!
How do you feel about cameras?
Lovely--rather a bit defensive--poetry.
But then, I suppose, beautiful, talented women--like yourself--are always seeking refuge from prying eyes, and searching hands.
While I realize you're speaking poetically, here, you needn't, in any case, be concerned; no one can steal your soul, you have to give, or barter, it away.
You haven't done that, Mysterious Poetess--have you?

one first needs to be in posession of a soul to either sell, barter or be stolen. ;)

By the way, "The Poetess" is truly excellent work--a very fine piece of art!

Well, if I may be so brassy, you, like so many people, seem to be suffering this tiresome internal vs external battle. What is that all about? Do you think the world cannot handle the real LA? Why are people so afraid to put themselves out there? At what point in our lives did they beat out of us the ability to just be ourselves?

I guess I do find poetry a cathartic way of expressing strong emotions, but I don't feel like I am especially revealing anything that I don't wish to be revealed.

Perhaps there's a subtle difference between an expression and an outlet? ie. An expression to help capture the emotional essence, and an outlet simply a means of stopping yourself going crazy!! Haha! Please apply salt liberally to my remarks!

How's that for an exhaustive review of the poetess, not The Poetess? :)

And words can do all that as they betray our thoughts and senses, demanding to be heard. I sense all that in your work and perhaps that's what makes it delightful and a pleasue to read.
