Genuine Fear

Genuine Fear

A Poem by Brandon Langley
"

It's sad that I'm genuinely afraid of a MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATE MATCH... A debate match that I'm not even debating in, nonetheless

"
"I'm trusting you,
"This is important,
"Not just to me,
"Not just to the whole team,
"But to the whole school,
"We've already lost the trophy we want,
"So let's go get the trophy we need."

That's what I'll say,
We've already lost the Academic Challenge trophy,
To the school we're afraid of,
I'm always too cocky,
But they can't be,
This is the Magnet we're talking about,
They're our biggest competitor.

Maybe our only competitor,
If we lose,
We lose the championship,
And that's all I have,
It's not just for the trophy,
It's for the respect,
That's the only time I'll get it.

I'm genuinely afraid of our chances,
We're tied with them right now,
And if we lose,
I don't even want to think about if we lose,
We'd have a chance,
But it'd be practically impossible,
50/50 is the scariest thing in the world.
