Belligerent Ghouls

Belligerent Ghouls

A Poem by L'enfant Terrible
"

Typical high school cynicism.

"

Belligerent ghouls

Run these schools

And it was on that rancid, sunny day

That all these ghastly gestures grappled my way

Walk steady in line

Brawny backs and belted behind

But I don't want to be here

Dragging myself forward from the rear

Belligerent rules

Employed in these wretched schools

And the students, they say, they'll show me the ropes

Make me miss not being a misanthrope

"But I don't want to be here"

I say, sweating over her wayward sneer

She said I deserve accolades, a trophy

For my leather and lead misanthropy

Author's Note

L'enfant Terrible
Another song-inspired one. Title and first verse are reference to The Smiths' song 'The Headmaster Ritual'.

This is a great one. I love the mood, so heavy and makes me feel overly obliged, a feeling I hate. The use of words, vocabulary and the very sentence formation make me feel trapped and perfectly unable to escape by any means. Just like schools, hah.
