Father Dear Father (And Many Dreams)A Poem by Kyrsten Van Wieren
Many years ago, before I lived a life on this earth
You were a small boy, in a striped t-shirt, with many dreams Chucking rocks around in your small man jeans Walking sticks, sibling tricks, many hospital trips You had many secrets, You promised to keep them. "Lord, let no one see what I have done" Said the father who made you Vulgarity, such wickedness, corruption, unjust So you call yourself a man, by what definition? What the Lord may see, if your eyes trust A small child would never forget A small child, violated, in your power, isolated These small children, changed forever Because you, yes your hands, commanded it so. But he, oh he My father, whom I love deeply His tiny brain deranged so completely As to make the same God Damn mistakes as you He made choices, I know it to be true These choices could have been avoided If it not for the Scoundrel, oh you! Now he will live out his life surrounded by a sea of men. Father, dear father If there is one thing I wish to say When I hear your warm chuckle In the corners of my mind When I hear Moon River, tears glisten in my eyes I can forgive you, as I believe God does But there is still sadness, that will never end A part of my life has disappeared A wedding, A grandchild, A hug So many things of mine you have missed, you will miss Father, dear father Many Years ago, before I lived a life on this earth You were a small boy, in a striped T-shirt, with many dreams with many dreams with many dreams and many dreams...
