A Princess Within

A Princess Within

A Story by Kylie
"

A girl who is considered "average" finds her life a living nightmare in high school. Then a boy comes along and shows her that you can be a princess even if its within..

"
Joe an "average" teen struggling to survive high school. She is faced with bullies around every corner and can't even have a normal walk home without being tripped or her books thrown into the road. She is struggling in her life at home and school. She isn't "perfect" enough for a mother to boast that her daughter won a pageant or a successful model at that. Her dad is disappointed with her grades and commends her on being the lowlife of the family, the person who brings disgrace to her family name.
One day, it was different. Even the posse of cheerleaders left her alone that day. A newcomer was rare and that was the fuss. He had been transferred from New England and he stuck out just like Joe did. His name Shawn. Shawn was strangely drawn to Joe. He looked for her at every curve, bend and corner for her. He felt that Joe was having a rough time fitting in and he was determined to help her. But not only her but her self-esteem and everything that she was insecure about. He wanted to rid of all the insecurities she had. And one day he told her this..
Joe was strangely attracted to Shawn, but gave up this "pipe dream" for she was not pretty enough for a handsome and dashing guy. She kept to herself that she liked him, as she did for every crush. They started hanging out and still Joe was still in her shell. A carnival had come up and he was determined to crack that shell. He asked her out and she reluctantly said yes. She was now worried about what she would wear. She scammed her closet and found designer jeans she never wore, for she feared of being laughed at for attempting to look pretty. She put them on and a V-neck shirt that showed her curves. She usually concealed these with big sweaters and sweat pants. She thought she could never be beautiful in any frame of mind. She put a light liner on, you could see it but it wasn't a lot. She waited by her mailbox for Shawn.
He arrived and jumped out of his car to open the door for her. She laughed and smiled as she stepped into the car. He got back in the drivers seat and turned to faced her. He smiled and said, "You look beautiful." She replied with a thank you and they sped off to the carnival. They arrived, and of course the cliches of cheerleaders, football team, and even the geeks were ready to pounce. We walked, hand in hand and headed for the ticket booth. When they were stopped by the head Cheerleader and Quarterback. They laughed and said, " Awwe, the pathetic worm has a date and even attempted to look pretty!" Shawn immediately commented back, "Are you jealous of girls who aren't fake? Girls who can have natural beauty, while girls like you use crayola to cover the ugly?" Joe was shocked to hear Shawn say that to a girl!
Joe walked away, pulling Shawn with me as he stared the couple in the eyes. Avoiding trouble, they walked around the perimeter of the carnival. Joe said thanks for sticking up for me. He smiled and kissed me on the cheek. Joe felt like he had just blew life into my body and soul. She looked up at him and thought this is perfect. He said, "I've been meaning to ask you but will you be my girlfriend?" Joe surprised by the confidence he had in this last statement. Did he not know life in high school will be a living hell if he dated her? Did he not know the horrors it would bring upon him?
Shawn smiled like he knew what Joe was thinking. He pulled me in closer and whispered in my ear, "I don't care what happens, you make sense. This makes sense. Ever since I walked in the doors of East Mountain High, I've been drawn to you." She looked at him and smiled. He smiled in return and said, "You're my princess and always will be."
Joe thought I can be a princess on the inside even if its the inside. She realized she wasn't born to live up to peoples expectations. She was here to be the princess in a princes life. Joe found the person she wanted to be, it was just hiding for the fear of being rejected. She came to realize she didn't care about what other people thought, because Shawn showed her that being you is the real you.
You can be a princess. Just be you and that's the true magic of being a princess. Believing in yourself is the place to start. So believe and make it happen. Because there is a Princess Within All Of Us!!
