Letting Go (Chapter Seven)A Chapter by Ryann WoodhouseWHEN I WOKE UP A FEW HOURS LATER, I LOOKED AROUND. Jack was gone. I lost him for good this time and I couldn't bring him back to me. I stretched, pulling my sweatshirt sleeves up to my elbows. I looked at my cuts again, shaking my head. I got up and walked downstairs to see my dad in the kitchen. He smiled at me. "Hey Tanyie." He said. I fought back my tears and pulled my sleeve down on the arm that I cut on. I waved with my other arm and faked a smile. "Hi dad..." Dad walked up to me and hugged me softly, keeping his coffee mug in his hand. Since he worked the night shift this was like morning for him, a few hours before he had to go to work. He kissed my head softly and I wrapped my arms around him tightly, not wanting to let go. Dad was the only thing I had anymore.. "So what do you wanna do, hon?" He brushed a strand of my blonde hair behind my ear. He looked in my eyes and I looked in his back. I had his blue eyes. His mystic blue eyes...As much as I hated to admit to myself, Dad used to be the best guy I knew in the world. Whatever happened to the connection we had when I was a little girl? What ever changed him to make him like this? Was it because my parents got divorced? I shrugged and looked at him, "I don't know..." I mumbled. He grabbed my hand, walking us out to the garage, keeping the lights off. "Cover your eyes." He said. "But wh-" "Just do it.." He interuppted me. I sighed and covered my eyes, just like Dad asked me to. The memory flashed in my mind in the darkness of my palms covering my only way of sight, even though without Jack it seemed like I was blind already. I heard the click of the light switch go on. "Okay. Tanya, uncover your eyes." I slowly uncovered my eyes and looked out at the garage. I looked up at Dad. "You..You got me my own truck..?" I asked, turning back towards the truck that stood in the garage. Electric blue. A Ford F-100. I smiled. I wanted to jump up and down like a little kid does when she's in a candy store and her parents tell her she can choose whatever you want. He smiled, proud in himself. "I sure did. Just the one you wanted, huh?" I looked up at him smiling, my eyes watery. "I love you daddy," I mumbled, pulling him towards me and hugging his waist. I snuggled my cheek on his chest and held back my tears, holding him tighter. He smiled and hugged me back. "I love you, too, Tanya." I pulled away from Dad and looked at him. I kissed his cheek softly, grabbing his hands, being careful of his cuts from all the metal work he did. "You're everything and all I have anymore, dad..." I mumbled, "And I can't lose you too.." I looked up in his eyes and he looked at me back. Dad leaned forward and kissed my forehead softly, looking at me. "I'm sorry for everything I've done to you.." He whispered, so softly I felt like I couldn't understand what he was saying. I felt his warm breath against my forehead and I smiled a bit, trying not to cry. "I've already forgiven you..." I mumbled softly. Dad smiled and pulled away from me, looking at me. He smiled more, and turned behind the corner, heading upstairs to start getting ready for work. © 2012 Ryann WoodhouseAuthor's Note
