OdeA Poem by Kyle KammererA weird take on an ode.To the crack on the wall, sprouting from the molding, that I’ve been eyeing since a year ago. You’ve intruded on my dining room and thought you were unnoticed. But the corner of my eye was drawn to you as I traipsed through the room feigning ignorance. All the while you have ascended like ivy climbing, sending out limbs to new territories. You disgusted me at first, jagged lines of dark crawling upon my once pristine wall. I tried to cover you up once, remember that? You hid beneath the plaster for weeks, lulling me into false securities. But you gnawed your way out, weaving a tapestry of lines in the shape of a tree in a field of white. I gave in that day. Remember the times we shared after that? I would sit here at the table and watch you, trying to catch your subtle movements towards the sky. When I was away I would stare at blank paper with blurred eyes, swearing you were with me for just a moment. After that I saw you everywhere, cracking my vision into pieces. And now how great you have become! Threatening to scrape the ceiling and split the room into broken halves and me reduced to trembling. © 2013 Kyle Kammerer |
