Mammalian Nonsense

Mammalian Nonsense

A Poem by K.A. Wealand
"

an animal popped out from the hedges and ran across the road.

"

Sipping on camel and chamomile
I saw myself earlier in a raccoon
that skittered across the road.

It must have squealed in worry
separated from spouse and brood.

Its striped figure hesitated but
continued across the pavement
into a dark ditch, muddied abyss.

Maybe it was blinded dumb
by the blithe headlights and
sputtering engines of modernity.

But the mammal reacted well,
according to instinct
and faith
and fear
and hope.

I loved this poem, eccentric, creative and certrainly it is a poem I will remember; new ideas how to write a poem as well as a sense of urgency to offer another poetry, and a new wild idea - however, this was different. thanks for entering my contest. regards, lara g.

animals, i suppose, don't really understand those things we build to run arround catching time! So they just run across the roads! :)
