Strange Dream Poem #1A Poem by Kyle SPStrange
Dream Poem #1
1. And
then, I fell asleep. And you
were beside me again. And we
came to the edge of the wood, And
slept under stone. Your
skirt split; a plane flew by. I looked
up at the sky, But saw
only white faces.
2. And we stepped together, until the music died. Light
and webs in the crippled trees, And the
Jackal started to talk. Tselinoyarsk.
Tselinoyarsk: Seek out what the birds have
lost. Where
the scenery was smoke, And
where you would find your sister, Alive in
the tomb. But wary
of his leer, you ran, Your
back to me, and your long hair. And the
Jackal said to me; Beware
the East March, And the
lilac fields where, My gun
was buried.
3. And sprinted the webs in between, The trees,
you ran and ran. They ate you alive! They ate you
alive! You
screamed. Where we sat together on the low seat, Under
the cross that liked to sing. Beside
the cryptic stone fountain, We were
kissed hands, Until
youth, a shady dream. A gift
this was, to be together again. To dream
until we died. To lie
naked and alone on dust. To hold hands beneath the lakeside. I bargained, I bargained, Until I won: A year
of stealth, For a
season of your face.
4. And I couldn't evade him. Around
the corners of the killer road, He swept
me away. And when
you thought I was dead, I ran
backwards Instead. We
searched and searched, Behind,
beneath the house. Beneath
the bed, above the floor, But we
could not find her. Only, The poster
on the wall. The gold
harp on the roof of the tree. And the plague that came before us, Was the meadow we left behind.
5. And so I
gave you to him, the Jackal, lo. Sitting
beneath the window wall. I'll steal everything you ever
own. I of grim
and calculate frown, Sitting patient outside the chateau. Protect her, protect her, the Jackal said. We were us here, We could
have wandered Scarred
and brittle fields. Haunted
houses and lengthened shades. You swim before you grin, And frown before you drown. And the beating heart on the grass, Told me to eat you, To eat you
before you die.
6. He
killed you, he left you there. I came
and went and did not care. I
thought you were dying, Or about
to. But you
were laughing instead. Laughing
towards me, Laughing
upon my skin. You were
my only dream. We could
have sealed ourselves away. And
never spoken, Just
listening to each other's sighs. But I
was awake now. And you weren't there, Only, The faces on the window wall. © 2017 Kyle SPFeatured Review
