A World of Grays

A World of Grays

A Poem by Kyle Joaquim
"

A love poem. Saved on my computer as "Gooey.odt," as I believe it's the mushiest thing I've ever written.

"

On far too many empty days

I deal with living in a world of grays

I know these by the mornings when my blinds seal me in

and the sun cannot illuminate the bright crimson sheets.

My legs do not have the strength to choose blue jeans

over simple sweats, and I cannot distinguish the shades

of brown when I spread peanut butter on my English muffin,

let alone see the vibrancy in the leaves of the trees.

The black rim of my glasses matches the dirt on the floors

and the gloom of the shade cast through the windows.

In our moments I see the vivid color of reality.

In you I see the most delightful tints.

The most passionate reds and striking yellows,

An ethereal pigment of pink,

Swirling together in kaleidoscope patterns through the air.

The gentlest greens and the brightest blues

The tones with you are my favorite hues.

I no longer fear a world of grays.

And in your eyes I find the greatest comfort -

For they're the precise shade of my tea

when I pour the milk.
