Mirror, mirror.A Poem by Kwiksie IfedioraInsecurities can only hurt us when we let them.Mirror,
mirror on the wall, Who’s
the fairest of them all? Hours
on end I prim and prod Yet
you offer neither shake nor nod. It
makes me wonder if you think me one dud Or
is it my beauty that leaves you bored? Mirror,
mirror above the sink, This
is how I look when I’ve had much drink. He’s
the third one leaving this week; Could
it be my desperation has begun to reek? I
try to drown the loneliness at my friend the bottle’s base But
my relief is always short lived, like my lovers’ face. Mirror,
mirror in my purse, It
seems my beauty has turned a curse. For
I seem now allergic to all that is mine And
find malfunctioning comfort in borrowed shine. The
lashes and hair are additions to mine which grow, But
despite their new-ness, I yet seek my glow. I
remember a once little girl, content with all; Whose
only cares where her tea-set and doll. There
was the teenager, with fresh rosy cheeks, Of
the light of heaven, her heart had a million peeks. She
grew older and lost her way From
the day she let the world chase her heart-light away. The
fake and deceptive, she welcomed in; Until
there was no longer any room for Him. Mirror
mirror, can’t you see? If
you were honest in your reflection, you’d be shattered, like me! Mirror
mirror, answer, please! This
silence contradicts the fairytale With my desperately expected happy endings. © 2013 Kwiksie IfedioraAuthor's Note
