I Heard You

I Heard You

A Poem by Kwiksie Ifediora
"

Strength and love do co-exist..

"

I knew who you were before my eyes knew sight.

At the very moment from my cell-lined carriage myself did alight;

I knew you, as the thorn knows its rose;

It must have been your joy…

It called to me I suppose.

I knew you, needless of any introduction

The love echo cocooning me performed that function.

Unsure of the other sounds,

I was attentively tuned to the background silence;

That which the solo of your heart beat solely orchestrated.

I knew you because I have never been deaf.

Your infuriated ‘NO’ rang out when they suggested my death.

The soothing warmth of your palms, oft seeped through to me

And with each shielding came a certainty renewed-

That come what may, I’d never be torn from you.

I knew you from the start of this journey we’ve made,

In my container was the fullness of my love also contained.

And though mentally murdered in an instant

By the totality, less a few,

A tenant unwanted; your love held fast for us two.

By blows from spite bulging slander and slashes from cutting silence

You, within and without, ceaselessly were wounded.

But when you faced each of their contemptuous gazes squarely,

With what must be the firmest of spines;

Your voice, then, sounded most loudly.

I am deeply moved. Thank you, Kwiksie, for being the voice for those who have no voice.
Surely, you are beloved in Heaven. You have made the angels smile...

Powerful piece from the perspective of a child to his mother, who defended his right to live. Well penned, Kwiksie!
