True Love?

True Love?

A Poem by Kurt Gargis

True Love?

The lovers embrace tightly
They whisper sweet, sweet words
They repeat this nightly
Their love echoed by the song of birds.

She said, "Don't you worry."
He said, "Please don't break me."
She said, "I'll never have to be sorry."
He smiled and let it be.

Days passed, nights went.
She started to drift.
He confronted her, who was heaven sent
And asked her about the horrible rift.

She smiled sadly at him.
She said, "I really am sorry."
He sobbingly asked, "Was I just some whim?"
She shook and said, "No, just another folly."

He looked at her, so sorrowful.
She turned away to leave.
He said, "But it was so wonderful!"
And she said, "I know. That's why I have to leave."

I love how you captured a tragedy and turned it into a beautiful poem.
You have a gift.

A tale that seems to be very common today - wonderfully captured. Simple, elegant words and diction lead the reader to truly empathize with these characters. Thank you for sharing.

That is so tragic, but in a sweet way.

Like sugared pecans with a bit of the hull still in, you know the dark part that tends to stay in the ridges on the back?

Beautiful and sad...

Good write...
