The Rose and Winter's Heart
To trudge through life
Is like walking through a blizzard.
Enduring all strife
And overcomming all that is hard.
I pull the cloak and hood close
Back and forth my eyes dart
In my clenched fist I hold this frozen Rose
Trying to keep it safe from Winter's Heart.
My lips are blue
My limbs are heavy.
But I try to stay true
Even against the gravity.
The sun is awake.
My limbs are heavy as lead.
Will it be my Maker?
Will it be done before I'm dead?
Winter's heart is melting
The water is running free.
Winter's heart is changing.
But will it change me?
This Rose I hold to me,
Will it survive?
Or just retreat into my soul,
With the book to wait to live?
