The great MawA Story by Kurt LawlessA battle between two dire wolves
The sacred home of the alpha’s, they sat between these cold rocky walls.
Ana faced the outside, her head peeking just above the hole at the end
of the cavern chamber. Moss growing upon the cold surfaces of the rocks
that jumbled up on the crevice of the window to the outdoors. Causing
yellow light to filter through illuminating the dim cave within. What
was the most interesting, was the stream. The water pouring in from the
hole that led outside. Trickling with a cool sensation within the cave
and down into the tunnels. Ana let her cool paw pads press into the
water - head turning around as she waited for her opponent to show.
Strange how the fights had been chosen to be placed in the maw this
time. The alpha’s living space was going to be tainted with blood.
However - the felvarg wasn’t sure if it was something that they enjoyed.
It was a friendly sport in the end, Ana was excited to meet whomever
she was to fight.
The cream felvargs answer soon came to her. As the shadows that enveloped the far end of the caverns gave shape to a form. Larger than here, it seemed a brute had approached her for this battle. Silky fur covering the coat of the fellow species. White in color, with splotches of cream all around - a pinto that was far more interesting in appearance than she may have been. That didn’t matter, she may have been plain cream with her white underbelly and darker saddle - but it didn’t change the force of her bite. Her blue eyes scanned over her opponent, noting the folded ears that sat upon her head as well. Harder to grab in a fight. Her opponent’s green eyes shined within the lighting that touched her as her paws stomped into the water. Splashing a small amount of water onto the ground and walls as Ana turned to face her enemy for the evening. “Good evening.” Ana would greet with a dip of her head, the thick accent that came off her throat was foreign. Though Ana was unsure where she had gotten such a thing, being born and raised on the island. It was simply an accent her family had since she was a pup, her mother spoke like it and it never left her even if her father also talked normally as other felvargs did. “I am Ana, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Ana gave a respectful bow to her partner. Carolyn smiled for a moment the fawn cream was curious about this one. Her accent was strange, but something interesting to listen to as well. Carefully the brute’s paws shifted, itching for a good fight that was going to ensure. As she looked around the cave she did suppose she should introduce herself. “I am Carolyn, I look forward to fighting with you.” Carolyn watched as Ana would raise herself again. The smaller standard would take a few steps back, distancing them to be at least three feet apart. Ana’s tail moving to level with her spine as she took in a deep breath. Trying to calm her center of gravity, getting her mind into the act. After all, she was born and raised for these sorts of things. She dreamed in participating in these competitions since she was a pup - not about to get herself beat either. As she narrowed her eyes towards Carolyn - the skin around them pulling to protect them from being punctured. “You arrived here first - you can get first move.” Carolyn would offer. Ana was not going to deny a chance at first move. Though that could be a mistake since she didn’t know the skill level of her opponent. Spreading her limbs equally apart she bent her knee’s slightly to give herself more traction. Her muzzle pulled back, revealing those shiny white canines free from the blood of other felvargs. She was groomed for these things - while in her older age she couldn’t deny she had avoided these competitions until now. Her hackles raised, shoulders rolled inwards as her stomach muscles tightened. Carolyn also set her own defenses at this point. The brute pulling her folded ears back, watching Ana press her own against her skull. Carolyn let her toes spread onto the dirt below, digging her claws in for traction as she knew Ana would probably go head first into her. A shoulder jut usually was the first move and that could be expected. Her chin tucking to protect her neck from harsh wounds and judgement. As the Brute carefully watched, it was almost like a lightning strike had cause the fight to start. One moment the light was shining through the hole, the next Carolyn heard Ana’s blood curdling snarl covering the light and darkening over the brute. The felvarg rushed towards her with her jaws open - snapping towards her right shoulder. As the brute took a step back she felt the jaws clamp onto her. Ana had made a mark, the felvarg sinking her teeth in and then suddenly letting go. Running along her side to get to her back. Ana was fast, her style of fighting was more on the side of trying to get as many tiny bites in as she could. Her jaws would open once more, tilting her head to the right as she bit into the ankle of the brute. Causing Carolyn to wince in pain, stumbling backward and beginning to retaliate. Her tail used as a rudder to push off to the right. Turning around to snap as Ana’s tail that was closer to her face. As soon as she felt herself have a hold - she pulled back. Causing Ana to slide against the dirt, her white underbelly stained with mud as suddenly with Carolyn’s head upwards she took the chance to go for the throat. Not for a death blow - simply to choke her opponent out and give her the win. As the standards jaws threatened Carolyn, the brute let go and lowered her head. Pushing her skull right into Ana’s as the splitting pain traveled through both of them. Ana whimpered, backing up as she tried to shake off the dizziness and pain within her head. It was the worst kind of pain if not for the soreness surrounding the middle section of her tail now. Ana watched as Carolyn didn’t take time to rush forward. Her larger size being thrown around as Carolyn bruised Ana’s chest. Causing her to throw her head back and the brute grabbing hold of her lower jaw with her teeth. Clamping down as Ana screeched out. Using her forelimbs to kick out in front of her, trying to trip Carolyn. However the brute had all four limbs planted fruitfully to the earth. Her front limbs simply feeling a small amount of pressure being applied. Ana took the chance - her jaws opened and she twisted her head around. Ignoring the pain she felt she dug her teeth into the right side of Carolyn’s skull. Trying to engulf her eye as a vulnerable spot. Not wanting to lose an eye, Carolyn quickly let go of Ana and left with simply a scratch to her left cheek. Stumbling backwards. The two bleeding felvargs heavily breathed, staring each other down as Ana’s own tail lashed back and forth. Her jaw aching from the impact her lungs screaming with pain. Carolyn was a powerful opponent, but Ana wanted to know where the brute’s endurance ended. She pushed off her back legs, jaws open once more - hoping that whatever attack was next would end the match. © 2018 Kurt LawlessAuthor's Note
