"well come Draven" Damien said. "please, do come in" the man said gesturing that i enter the room. looking back and forth between the two men. weighing my options, i found it better to comply, so i entered the room.
"now that the guest of honor has arrived. Perhaps we should get down to business" their was something in the mans voice i didn't quite like. It seemed as if he knew something i didn't. I didn't like to not know things, especially my enemy, and This man, was enemy in every sense of the word. the man named Damien was dressed in black breeches, and a silk white shirt under a woolen over coat. he was slender, athletic, muscular, with long straight black hair darker then coal. his finger nails where long, and his hands i noticed where almost skeletal like, as he closed the door behind me. The man looked no older than 25, but i knew, especially in my line of work, that looks where deceiving.
"now than, i do not have what you are looking for Alex." said Damien, resting both his hand on the table, and looked at the man. for the first time since I'd entered the room, i took notice of the man at the other end. He look indifferent to the whole conversation, as if it made no difference weather Damien would abet. The man glanced at me. My eyes widened as i noticed his eyes were two different colors; One a deep sea blue, and the other an emerald green. Their was something hidden in his eyes, Amusement was it? Like he had some altogether funny secret, or found some hidden treasure he wouldn't share with anyone. "Nor do i intend to tell you where you can acquire such an item." Damien continued, breaking my train of thought. "A cruce salus" He finished, and smiled. Alexanders eyes widened.
"traitor...goddamn you Damien! what have you done now! TRAITOR!" The man shouted
"don't not speak to ME of traitors Alexander" Damien remarked coolly. "for if I am a traitor, you are one ten fold my friend."
"you dare call me your friend? After this duplicity?! I think not!" the man sighed, a sigh that seem soul deep. "it seems their is no choice" Alexanders hands lowered in resignation, and then he laughed. "you think you've won you arrogant fool." he smiled "Draven" I looked at Alexander. This man wasn't at all like the one across from me. He wasn't a genuinely wicked man, just out for his own well being. Then again, isn't that how all wicked men start off? "Have you ever heard of the book of destruction?" I saw Damien's face change, his eyes narrowed. "Enough!" he yelled at Alexander, but the man continued, as if he hadn't heard anything "i am asking you a question Draven" I looked at the man. The book DID sound vaguely familiar to me. However, considering the situation, I've often learned that playing stupid gets you more information. "no, i haven't" the man seemed absolutely enthusiastic about my answer, though i couldn't imagine why. Alexander laughed, "so you really DON'T know. I applaud you Damien, i didn't honestly think you did it." I looked at Damien, the man looked deadly. Eyes narrowed, he made his way around the table, his nails scratching the metal surface as he walked by. "Did you think i would not? I COULD not?" He looked at Alexander, His composure relaxed, but his eyes blazed like hell fire. Alexander stared at him, seemingly oblivious to the look in the mans eyes. "No, i didn't think you COULDN'T do it, I just though you wouldn't do it to your own flesh. Though, i should no better by now, shouldn't i?" looking away from the man he continued "Their is an ancient prophecy, one that dates back to before Christ. when their was no earth, and angels reigned on it. Many eons passed, and god, for what ever reason, decided to separate heaven from earth, and the angels along with it. However, their is said to be one angel, the curator, or guardian, of the heavens and earth. Theirs also said to be an entrance into heaven, here, on earth." "enough Alexander. Spare the minor details" said Damien, as he proceeded to sit on top of the table. "Do you know the angels name Draven?" I looked at Alexander. His discolored eyes seeming to purge into my soul, trying to reach for an answer that wasn't their. I simply shook my head. "Sabrael. His name was Sabrael. He is keeper of the first gate of heaven, then one that resides on earth." Sabrael. Why did that name sound familiar? Sabrael. My eyes widened. He was the angel that was on every pained glass, every painting, in the Order Of Light. We destroyed those we were sent to in HIS name. When i looked at Alexander again, i could tell he knew what I'd been thinking.
"The one and the same"
"but HOW? How do you know this?"
"It's in the book Damien."
"the book of destruction..."
"yes."
"and this angel, if their is a gate on earth, where is the angel? and the gate? what of them?"
"Why do you think i am here?" he looked at Damien.
"I see..." Said Damien. "It seems you leave me no choice"
Damien looked at the man in the eye, as if searching for something. The man before me began to sweat profusely, until it was dripping down his face. I stared at Damien. The man before him began to scream in agony, his skin turning red and raw, blisters forming on his face. His eyes rolled behind his head, and he began to convulse violently. Blood began coming out of his nose and eyes, as i watched the man fall to his knees and lay dead at my feet. I stared at him, my face impassive. I had seen death before, but never like that. I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for him. Damien turned to face me. "and now you, my friend" before i even knew what happened, i jumped just as Damien's dagger hit and stuck in the floor. Drawing my dagger from it's sheath, i held it at the ready, prepared for a fight. Damien looked at me, crouched on the floor like a cat. The dagger in his mouth and another in his hand. He lunged at me and i jumped back just as his dagger nicked my tunic. I sprung forward, and swung the dagger aiming for his heart, but came to meet bear arm seconds before. Circling each other like wolves for the kill, he flung himself, daggers in both hands swinging them wildly at me. At the same time i launched myself, attempting to end it in one blow. our daggers meet in a clank of metal meeting metal. He was strong. Holding his danger against mine with one hand, he swung the other dagger at my face, just as i pulled back, to feel him cut under my right eye. my dagger met his again metal on metal, as i swung my left arm and made contact with his face, causing him to slam into the wall. I bolted to the door determined to get it open, right when i felt something catch my ankle, causing me to topple to the ground. lifting myself from the ground, i felt a sudden loss of breath as Damien kicked me in the ribs. laying their trying to catch my breath, i could feel his hands on me, turning me over. "I'd like to see the light go from your eyes as i kill you, little Draven." I couldn't die, not here. Gathering as much strength as i could i kicked him in the stomach, sending him backwards onto the ground. Standing up, i drove my fist into his face. He pulled back, nose bleeding, eye black. Knowing i would have no other chance, i made way for the door, and pulled it open, and proceeded to step outside. With out knowing why, i turned around, only to come face to face with Damien hurling himself at me, dagger in hand, aiming straight for my throat. Seconds be for he could cut me, i grabbed his forearm, with both my hands, as he rammed the other dagger into my stomach. for the second time, i felt a sudden loss of breath. I grunted as he twisted the blade in my stomach, causing it to go deeper into my flesh. Feeling dizzy from the pain, i stumbled backwards, only to feel him drive his fist into my face. I fell to the floor lips bleeding, my tunic wet and stick with blood. Dizzy and disoriented, i looked up. Damien stood above me, the dagger raised over his head, ready to inflict the final blow that would end my life. i closed my eyes, prepared for it.
"stop!"
my eyes snapped open. Looked around to see at least 50 member of the Order's elite assassin's surround me, Dressed in all black, like angels of death, seraph blades at the ready.
"Zane, Andrew, Grab Draven. Don't Move Damien."
The men named Zane and Andrew walked forward. Eyes never leaving Damien, each man grabbed one arm, and drug me into the edge of the group.
"We've been looking for you for a long time" The captain said.
"and so you have" and with that Damien disappeared like mist into the night.
