Chasing Shadows

That night, i found two letters
one in my wallet, one beneath the mattress
memories running through my mind like cheetahs
i look in the closet but i don't see your dresses 

Too many thoughts that I can't mutter
i would send a text but you blocked my number
you found it easier to believe I was a cheater.
now it's all gone and none of it really matters.

I was up all night asking why
and hoping that you'd still be mine
i lay in bed shedding tears
wondering if it was really the end

Some nights i cried, some nights i prayed
some nights i remembered the promises that failed
another one bites the dust though i tried
but there is a fragment of you embedded in my mind.

How did we go from forever to never
forget all the songs we composed by the river
matching outfits for Christmas and Easter
and that day we became a couple at dinner.

I had the highs, i knew the lows
i felt myself fall and slip below
some days were swift, some days were slow
but waiting for you is like chasing shadows.
