The Visit

The Visit

A Poem by Ian Danton

It doesn't start at the beginning
sweat has dried by then
dirt smeared across once clean linen
no
it starts with a grimace
a sharpened comment
honed with intent
delivered by missile

off we go
the obvious needs to be said
paint it bold and proud
vein throbbing truth

and again
and again

"are you getting this?"

of course

sunlight smears the windows
warming the brow
reminding me of bouncing laughter

notes stain paper
black and blue scored wounds
throbbing and oh so proud
line
after
line
after
line

time shuffles on
in a dreary self mocking perpetuity
only to end in a sickly crimson glow

it is done

"Have a great day!"

"Delivered by missile", "paint it bold and proud", then "to end in a sickly crimson glow". I am guessing this is a poem about getting a tattoo. I like the irony at the end, great work.
