I shaved my head

I shaved my head

A Poem by Yağmur
"

This is a story of wanting to break up, but not wanting to be the breaker

"
I shaved my head
And tattooed my face
Reinvented myself
Or at least the character I play

But you don’t realize
You’re the one thing
I want to rid myself from
Because you’re the one thing
In my life
That I can’t change

I pick the fights
Do every-single-solitary-thing
That you hate
My insides scream “leave!”
But you don’t hear it
Or you won’t hear it
And you stay
Despite my silent screams and cries
You stay.
And I’m plague by my own destiny
And the ‘I do’ I made

I won’t be the one
To say ‘go’
I won’t shoulder any more blame
Without words
My wishes are still known
Is it me, or is it you
Making this mess a game?

I love the first stanza! The specificity of the imagery of shaving your head, to represent a feeling as vague as conflict of identity, really grounds the poem! I would like to see maybe some similar concrete imagery to portray the frustration of the speakers relationship. But this might just be my preference. Overall I loved reading this poem! Your diction feels very mature and grounded.

A powerful dance of words and thoughts. I could feel the struggle and the need in your words. Yağmur, you create vision and you left open questions. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry. I did enjoy.
